The fortified barracks of Fort Verdala or as they are also known Verdala Barracks were constructed by the British in the 1850s within part of the bastions of the 17th Century fortifications, the Santa Margherita Lines. The fort was built between 1852 and 1856 and it incorporates St. Margherita Bastion and St. Helen’s Bastion.
